Every Woman’s Heart Matters
Her Heart is proud to support the Women and Cardiovascular Disease (Australia) Priority Setting Partnership, conducted using the internationally recognised James Lind Alliance approach.
Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of illness and death among Australian women, with almost 20 women dying each day. Yet women continue to be underrepresented in cardiovascular research and experience inequities in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.
This important national initiative will bring together:
- women with lived and living experience of cardiovascular disease
- carers and family members
- healthcare professionals
Together, they will identify the unanswered questions about women and cardiovascular disease that matter most.
What will the partnership achieve?
The project will develop a nationally agreed Top 10 list of priorities for future research into women and cardiovascular disease.
These priorities will help researchers, research funders, policymakers and health services focus on the questions that could make the greatest difference to women’s cardiovascular health and care in Australia.
The partnership will consider women’s cardiovascular health across the life course and the full continuum of care – from prevention and early detection through to diagnosis, treatment, cardiac rehabilitation and long-term management.
It will also seek to ensure that the priorities reflect Australia’s diverse communities, including First Nations women, culturally and linguistically diverse women, and women living in rural, regional and remote areas.
Your voice matters
Women with lived experience, carers and healthcare professionals will be invited to contribute throughout the project, beginning with a national consultation to identify unanswered questions.
There will be further opportunities to help prioritise the questions before the final Top 10 research priorities are agreed.
Her Heart’s Involvement
Her Heart supports the partnership by raising awareness and encouraging women, carers and healthcare professionals across Australia to participate.
Prof Linda Worrall-Carter, Founder and CEO of Her Heart and Prof Patricia Davidson, Chair of Her Heart Board are both a member of the national Steering Group, contributing her expertise in women’s cardiovascular health and helping ensure that women’s voices remain central to the process.
