Increasing access to healthy food boxes and recipes to Australian women experiencing difficulty accessing fresh produce for their family
A healthy diet is one of the key pillars to heart health prevention. However, not all women have the time, knowledge and income to access healthy food their family.
Her Heart is committed to giving back to the community. A diet high in fat, salt and sugar has been linked to heart health conditions such as coronary heart disease and heart failure, as well as risk factors for heart disease such as high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes.
Our aim is to provide not only nutritionally appropriate meals but to educate women on quick and healthy meal preparation for one month. The outcome of this initiative is to deliver:
- Nutritional education through recipes and fresh ingredients
- Empowerment to learn the skills for healthy eating
- An education-based approach to prevention for risk factors for Heart Disease
Food boxes contain recipe cards with nutritional information and step-by-step guided instructions on how to prepare the meals and teach basic cooking skills needed to create fresh and healthy meals and motivating women to learn about healthy options. Recipes cards are repeatable making meal planning easy.
