Alta Schutte (PhD FESC ISHF FRSSAf FAHMS) is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at UNSW Sydney and Global Co-Director of the Cardiovascular Division at The George Institute for Global Health. Internationally recognised as a leader in hypertension, she has contributed to more than 580 scientific publications, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and JAMA. She was senior author of the 2020 International Society of Hypertension Global Hypertension Guidelines and is a Past President of the Society.

She is Co-Chair of the National Hypertension Taskforce of Australia and Deputy President of the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance. Her major honours include the American Heart Association Harriet Dustan Award (2022), the World Hypertension League Peter Sleight Excellence Award (2023), the NHMRC Fiona Stanley Award for Australia’s highest-ranked $5 million Synergy Grant (2024), and the International Society of Hypertension Outstanding Women in Hypertension Research Award (2024). She was named Australia’s leading researcher in Vascular Medicine by The Australian in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
